Summary of respect for patients in healthcare settings

by Shweta Ramkumar

Part 3 🤟and the final video of the series on how we as healthcare professionals can communicate, demonstrate and exemplify more respect🙏 amongst our patients.

Some elements are a repetition of concepts I have covered in previous videos but I have added a bit of a unique spin on some of them. In this video I cover

✅The importance of acknowledgement and active listening as a ‘respect language’

✅Being consciously aware of whether our judgements / opinions / preconceived assumptions and beliefs are forming the basis of our communication or whether its tried, tested and proven recommendations that have worked successfully with past or current patients

✅Treating patients as unique individuals, not in a cookie cutter one size fits all manner

✅Being open and receptive to both feedback from them and exploring alternative, innovative, less conventional treatment methods that may work well with patients given that they are now better informed and aware

✅Respect is a two way street; patients should also be treating us with respect.

Let me know your thoughts on this video and stay tuned for next week’s video series on the role of ethics in the space of healthcare and their impact on professionals and our patients

Hi, I'm Shweta

I coach non-native English speaking healthcare professionals how to advance in their career and build better relationships with their patients and colleagues by expressing themselves more articulately and confidently in the English language.

I work closely with healthcare professionals who work with patients regularly. I help them improve their communication skills when interacting with patients and colleagues, teach them how to show up authentically, assertively and articulately in their field of work in order for them to ultimately gain credibility, validation and respect.

If you work in a clinical role in the healthcare industry and would like to learn more about how to better connect and communicate openly with your clients / patients, book a complimentary 30 minute discovery call with me to see how I can best support you.
