How to demonstrate & exemplify respect

by Shweta Ramkumar

Part 2 ✌️of my 3 part video series on how we as healthcare professionals can demonstrate and exemplify respect 🙏to our patients in order to build better relationships with them and excel in our vocation

Apologies for the delay in posting this, my videos 🎥 are usually recorded📸 edited and uploaded on Wednesdays but a combination of power outages and standard tech issues got in the way

I refer to the episode on Lindsay Lapaquette‘s Workplace Communication podcast 🎧🎤🗣in this video where she interviews Julie Pham, PhD on the 7 forms of respect for more effective communication in the workplace, link to the episode below

I have dissected elements of that episode and have talked about

✅The relative, contradictory, subjective & dynamic nature of respect

✅Just like Gary Chapman has illustrated Five Love ❤️ Languages, there is an equivalent of Seven Respect Languages

✅How acknowledging what our patients say and do and respecting their time is a form of respect language

✅The slippery slope of implementing Candor as a respect language, Gary Vaynerchuk talks about Candor explicitly in all his content and that’s where I had first heard of it

✅The role of professional / social hierarchy and status in different cultures and its impact on respect

Let me know your thoughts on this video and stay tuned for Part 3 next week where I will cover Do’s and Don’t of demonstrating respect to our patients

Hi, I'm Shweta

I coach non-native English speaking healthcare professionals how to advance in their career and build better relationships with their patients and colleagues by expressing themselves more articulately and confidently in the English language.

I work closely with healthcare professionals who work with patients regularly. I help them improve their communication skills when interacting with patients and colleagues, teach them how to show up authentically, assertively and articulately in their field of work in order for them to ultimately gain credibility, validation and respect.

If you work in a clinical role in the healthcare industry and would like to learn more about how to better connect and communicate openly with your clients / patients, book a complimentary 30 minute discovery call with me to see how I can best support you.
